Home Heating Oil Crisis
Click on the "PLAY" icon to view the program
This week on Maine Watch, we focus on the home heating oil crisis in Maine. With oil prices over $3.00/gallon, tens of thousands of Maine families can't afford to heat their homes. Local
community agencies say they've never seen so many people ask for help, and they've never seen those people be so desperate. Federal fuel assistance often pays for only half a tank of oil, and many of the "working poor" don't even qualify. We'll meet some of those struggling to pay their bills and look at some of the state and local efforts to help. Also, we'll examine what this could mean for Maine's economy. Our guest will be Dale McCormick, head of the Maine Housing Authority.
